Ruggerio, Shekarchi honored by AAA
STATE HOUSE – AAA Northeast today honored Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and House Majority Leader K. Joseph Shekarchi for their efforts in enacting traffic laws to make Rhode Island roads safer.
AAA Northeast Senior Vice President Lloyd P. Albert presented them with the Traffic Safety Leadership Award at the association’s annual Rhode Island Traffic Safety Luncheon at the Providence Marriott.
Lloyd said the organization selected President Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) and Leader Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) for the honor because of “the leadership they demonstrated in passing key laws that will significantly impact road safety for years to come.”
Specifically, the association noted President Ruggerio’s and Leader Shekarchi’s leadership this year in the passage of a new child passenger safety law requiring that children remain in rear-facing child safety seats until they reach age 2, another new law requiring classes for the parents of new drivers and the law that will take effect next year banning hand-held electronics use by drivers.
